Good Clean Love Bio-Match: Restore & Balance Review

Good Clean Love‘s Bio-Match line was created with the vagina’s natural environment in mind, mimicking pH levels, salt balance, and lactic acid production in order to create products that are vulva-friendly and health-conscious. The line consists of two products: Restore (a lubricant) and Balance (a “personal wash”).

RestoreDescription

restoreGood Clean Love’s Bio-Match Restore is a water-based gel lubricant, which is safe for both silicone sex toys & latex barrier methods of contraception. It is free of petrochemicals, parabens, & glycerin — with a minimal list of ingredients: organic aloe barbadensis leaf juice, xanthan gum, lactic acid, natural flavor, potassium sorbate, and sodium benzoate. It can be used to add lubrication to sexual activity or simply to alleviate daily vaginal dryness and discomfort.

Restore comes packaged in a small, cardboard box that includes (1) a 2 oz. tube with a screw-on top and (2) a plastic applicator for easy internal reach. Good Clean Love estimates that each tube is good for approximately 15 applications.

Experience

restore consistencyAs I’ve mentioned before, my body’s lubricating abilities have been drastically reduced with the emergence of my “low libido.” My partner and I are always looking for a lubricant that feels natural but lasts an impressively long time, and that’s why Restore piqued my interest. If it mimicked the vagina’s natural environment, would it mimic natural lubrication too?

Turns out, it does an okay job. It’s relatively thin and slippery without being too watery and it lasted as long as we needed it to (albeit we didn’t push for any world records). However, even though the instructions say to apply to both partners, it’s definitely more of a lube for the receptive party. It dried out almost as soon as we applied it to my partner’s penis; not even lasting the few moments it took for us to get into position before intercourse.

Thankfully, it works much better when applied inside of the body, and that’s where the handy plastic applicator comes into play. As I went through the process of squirting lube directly into my vagina for the first time, I found myself wondering… Could this be injected ahead of time, purely in anticipation of sex? Would it be a good option for individuals who do not produce enough natural lubrication but maybe don’t want to pack lube with them for a night on the town?

restore applicatorThe next time my partner and I had to run some errands and go grocery shopping, we tested it. We were gone for a couple of hours, we came home, grabbed a condom (to cut down on friction, just incase the lube had dried out), and jumped straight into a PIV quickie. To my surprise, Restore had maintained its wetness — whether this is a testament more to the lube or the handy applicator that gets “all up in there,” I’m not sure.

The only thing that really bothers me about this lube is the smell. It’s similar to Almost Naked‘s vanilla cake scent, but has a twang of something that smells sour and reminds me of sterile environments. (If you’re thinking that this would taste particularly terrible, you would be correct.)

Bottom Line

Honestly, Good Clean Love’s Restore lubricant did what it was supposed to do, but it didn’t feel so good that it truly impressed me. If you’re looking for a health-concious water-based lube that comes with a handy applicator and feels somewhat natural, maybe this will be perfect for you. But I’m still smitten with their (much more cushiony) Almost Naked lube — which also happens to be more affordable ($15/4 oz vs. $20/2 oz).

BalanceDescription

Whereas many commercial cleansers can be too harsh for more sensitive areas of the body (like the genitalia), Good Clean Love’s Bio-Match Balance has been specially crafted for this exact purpose. It is both petroleum and paraben-free. However, the list of ingredients is much longer than for Restore, including: water, sodium cocoamphoacetate, glycerin, lauryl glucoside, sodium cocoyl, glutamate, sodium lauryl glucoside, carboxylate, cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, coco-glucoside, glyceryl oleate, lactic acid, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, mahonia, aquifolium (oregon grape) root extract, hydrastis canadensis (goldenseal) extract, allium sativum (garlic) bulb extract, calendula officinalis flower extract, lavandula angustifolia (lavender oil), potassium sorbate, and sodium benzoate.

Good Clean Love’s Bio-Match Balance arrives in a 4 oz. plastic bottle with a press-to-open top and has a relatively thin, watery consistency. (It is important to note that although this product is marketed as a personal wash, the bottle clearly states that it is “for external use.“)

Experience

DSC03709_phixrFirst of all, let me say that I don’t have particularly sensitive skin. I can suds up my pubic hair & outer-most vulva bits with regular old body wash and experience no ill effects. I’m also a huge fan of cleaning in between my folds with a simple combination of washcloth & water, never allowing scented products to cross that intimate threshold. So naturally, when I first tried using Balance for its intended purpose, I felt extremely neutral. Sure, I was a fan of the soft lavender scent — and yes, it made me feel quite “fresh.” But there was nothing uniquely special about it, and that hardly justifies a $14 bottle of soap in my life.

As I was wondering how I would possibly be able to write such a lackluster review, I had an idea: I could wash my Lunette menstrual cup with this! After all, it’s made to be a mild intimate wash that is safe for vulvular contact. And although it says “external use” on the label, it wasn’t like I would be pouring it directly into my vagina. I’d simply make sure to rinse my cup very well afterwards.

The verdict? It works wonders. Generally, I like to give my cup a quick wash with soap and water whenever I empty it (to do-away with any lingering smells) and then boil it in-between my periods for a more thorough clean. Unfortunately, I’ve experienced mild irritation from certain soaps and I’m happy to report that Balance is not one of them. It helps me feel clean throughout menstruation without any discomfort or negative reactions.

It’s important to remember that this is not what Good Clean Love’s Bio-match Balance is marketed for — and may even go against their printed instructions. As I mentioned before, my body is not overly sensitive to most products, so although this worked for me, I cannot recommend this alternative use for everybody.

Bottom Line

Do I think that Balance is worth the price tag? No, not for me…even if it is a good menstrual cup cleaner. However, if you’re the type of person who has really sensitive skin and/or has a difficult time finding soap that is genital-friendly, this might be a good product to try — unless you are also sensitive to glycerin.

Good Clean Love – Almost Naked Lubricant Review

I love lube.

I love it so much that my partner has officially declared me a “goo hoarder” and placed an embargo on any further lube purchases until we start emptying a few bottles. But when Good Clean Love offered me some of their products in exchange for my honest opinion…well, I simply couldn’t say no. And dear holy lube gods, both my partner and I are very glad that I didn’t!

DSC03667_phixrGood Clean Love prides themselves on being an organic, earth & body-friendly company. They are a member of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics & Organic Trade Association, a Coop American Green Company, a Certified B Corp, and certified organic by Oregon Tilth. Basically, they want to raise awareness of the potentially harmful ingredients commonly found in sexual wellness products — and offer you safe & natural alternatives. (I plan on doing a separate post on lubricant safety soon!)

Good Clean Love’s Almost Naked lubricant is free of all petrochemicals, parabens, and glycerin. It is 95% organic and 100% vegan, with a very limited list of ingredients: organic aloe barbadensis leaf juice, xanthan gum, agar, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, sodium lactate, lactic acid, and natural flavors (including lemon & vanilla).

It arrives in a small flip-top tube and is available in 2 different sizes: a travel-handy 1.5 oz and the regular-sized 4 oz. (You can also purchase 4 ml sample packets.) The lubricant itself is a water-based gel that is safe for use with latex condoms and silicone toys.

The first thing that I noticed about the Almost Naked lube was the smell; it’s sugary sweet and reminds me of cake icing. As a lover of all things buttercream, I obviously had to do an immediate taste test. I was surprised that, despite the distinct smell, there is little-to-no taste that can be detected — either by myself, my partner, or my wonderfully cooperative friends. (Not gonna lie… I was slightly disappointed. But I guess I don’t need to be eating  the lube.)

DSC03685_phixrAs I settled into bed with my beloved Jopen Comet II and my tube of Almost Naked, I quickly discovered that there was something special about this particular lube. First of all, the gel is simply fantastic. I can apply it to the tip of my toys and it stays perfectly still. It waits for me to spread it out in whatever way that I desire — rather than sliding out-of-control all the way to the base of the toy and dripping onto the sheets.

I’m no newcomer to gel lubricants either. I own multiple varieties, but not a single one of them will last more than a few seconds if I turn my toy upside down. Almost Naked will stay in its little “dolloped” shape without any perceptible change, completely defying gravity. It’s basically magic.

When in use, I find that the gel feels both cushiony and slippery — and a little goes a long way. (All of these things should make it absolutely fantastic for anal sex, but I haven’t personally tried it yet.) My partner and I have always used lube, but it has truly become a necessity over the last couple of years as my libido has taken a nosedive. If we’re wanting something that feels natural, we’ll definitely reach for a thinner silicone lubricant. But if we’re in the mood for extremely wet and squishy sex…Almost Naked is perfect. It never seems to dry out (no matter how hard we go at it), and yet it wipes off with no fuss.

bottom line text

I can’t say it enough: I love Good Clean Love’s Almost Naked lubricant! It has amazing staying power, feels gloriously squishy, and (most importantly) is health-conscious. At approximately $15/4 oz, it is a smidge more expensive than some other water-based lubricants, but I’ve also been much more impressed with it. To be honest, I think this will be our go-to gel lubricant from now on.

5stars

Pros: gel has incredibly thick consistency, only need a small amount, long-lasting, safe for the body and the environment, water-based (so it’s safe for toys & contraception), little-to-no taste

Cons: sugary smell can be off-putting for some individuals

Fun Factory Bouncer

Fun Factory Bouncer Review

Fun Factory Bouncer

The Fun Factory Bouncer is a unique dildo in a surprisingly simple “Why did no one ever think of this before?!” sort of way.  At first glance, it seems like a fairly typical non-realistic dildo: sporting a wavy shape & a gentle curve. Although aesthetically pleasing, what makes this toy special is not apparent until you have it in your hands. Then the 3 weighted balls begin to jiggle around inside and suddenly you’re all like, I absolutely must know how this feels inside of my body right this instant. Lubricant! Porn! Go! ...Or maybe that’s just me.

Of course, there are other reasons to appreciate the Bouncer aside from its awesome “shake dildo” status. It’s made from body-safe & nonporous silicone with a velvety soft, matte finish. (Firm to the touch, but still quite flexible.) It has a large, flat base that not only makes it both harness compatible & anal safe, but also offers some suction attachment possibilities.  Plus, at 7″ long with a 1.5″ diameter, it’s a rather happy medium for many individuals; not too small to be boring, but not too large to be intimidating either.

The Bouncer is available in three colors: black, red, and “candy rose” (the pale pink color shown here). It arrives in a thin, dual layered cardboard box with photos of the product on the outer sleeve.  Included inside is a “user manual” that offers very basic information about the toy…but seeing as it’s a dildo, there really isn’t a lot of instruction necessary.

Experienceffbouncer2

With the added weight of the 3 spheres moving around inside, I had secretly hoped that the Fun Factory Bouncer would feel similar to their Stronic line of toys — the difference being that my own thrusting power would make the unique “thuddy” sensation even stronger.

I was incredibly wrong…but not entirely disappointed.

Under most circumstances, it’s difficult for my oblivious little vagina to register the weights and their movement. Unless I’m thrusting with intensely wild abandon, the sensation is felt much more strongly in my hand (which I find somewhat distracting). However, as I increase my speed near climax, the extra jiggling sensation does provide me with a nice little push over the edge.

Honestly though, what I enjoy most about the Bouncer are the bumps & curve. The toy is curved just enough to gently massage my G-spot while still allowing me to thrust without fear of “hooking” my pubic bone. The large, wavy bumps also provide pleasant stimulation to the nerves surrounding my vaginal entrance. Without a doubt, it’s a great toy for when I’m craving a very active & thrusty masturbation session.

The only downside is that with all of this movement, the Bouncer doesn’t always stay lubricated for very long. If I’m not paying careful attention, the silicone can get dry & “draggy” causing the constant insertion/removal of the 3 lumps to make me feel slightly sore after prolonged use. (Fun Factory silicone also attracts a decent amount of dust & hair — especially since their toys do not come with storage pouches. I always keep toy cleaner or a spray bottle of water nearby.)

As for the “suction” capabilities of the base, I unfortunately don’t have much to offer. I never get any use out of this feature on toys, because I’m the type of person that needs to be relaxed & on their back in order to reach orgasm. However, when I did attempt to stick the Bouncer to a ton of different surfaces all over my apartment and wiggle it around, it seemed a little finicky. It would definitely stick to my clawfoot tub without a problem, but almost everything else (tables, hardwood floors, drywall, etc.) was hit or miss. Plus, the connection was almost always broken if I just barely tilted the dildo in any given direction.

Bottom Line

Overall, I found the movement of the weighted balls to be a very subtle addition to my masturbation experience; a pleasant experience that I could nonetheless live without. And although I enjoyed the curved & wavy shape, it is not unique or innovative on its own. There are plenty of other (cheaper) silicone dildos with similar shapes that I probably would have enjoyed just as much.

My advice? The Fun Factory Bouncer can be a great addition to your toy collection if you’re specifically looking for something new & exciting to spend your money on — or if you know that you really like wavy dildos and a lot of thrusting action. However, if pure intensity is what you’re after…I can’t help but think that this toy will leave you lacking.

3star

Pros: innovative design with weighted “kegel balls” inside, curve that may stimulate G-spot and/or prostate, wavy shape offers more varied sensation when thrusting, body-safe & nonporous silicone, high quality & trustworthy brand (Fun Factory), anal-safe & harness compatible

Cons: movement of inner balls may not be felt very strongly inside body/may be felt too strongly in hand, silicone can become draggy if not sufficiently lubricated, noticeable seam that you may feel if very sensitive (although I could not), suction base doesn’t seem to maintain a strong hold on most surfaces, innovation is often expensive — and at $100, this toy is no exception

L’amourose Paramour Review

Paramour AccessoriesThe Paramour is a 3-in-1 sex toy set for (primarily heterosexual) couples, created by the luxurious L’amourose: a relatively new company that has been taking the sex blogging community by storm. It consists of a one-button vibrating bullet made from hard (ABS) plastic & three silicone attachments. (Purchased separately, these would be known as Lana, Mae, & Clark.) It also comes with a remote control that doubles as a magnetic charging base — a convenience that I absolutely adore.

The Paramour arrives in multiple layers of packaging that is reminiscent of Lelo. First, there is a thin cardboard slipcase featuring elegant & artistic photo representations of the toys. Inside of that, the toys are nestled into a much more sturdy & plain black box that would be appropriate for long-term storage. Additionally, there is a separate thin box that contains the charging cord, tiny travel adapter (so that you don’t have to bring the larger remote control/base), warranty card, 140-page instruction manual, lubricant sample, and fancy velvet storage pouch.

Lana

Paramour LanaAs a sex blogger who has never tried an actual We-Vibe (but very much wants to), the first thing that my partner and I did was use the Lana in the same hands-free fashion: I inserted the thin silicone piece into my vagina, with the bullet resting near my clitoris, and we had PIV sex. I was genuinely surprised by how well the toy stayed in place, even with my partner’s vigorous thrusting. However, the bullet just wasn’t “doing it” for me. The hard plastic was very uncomfortable when it would get pressed against my body and the placement wasn’t ideal for my genital anatomy. I can’t help but think that if the bullet was vertical instead of horizontal, it may be able to reach the clitorises of more individuals and potentially be nestled more comfortably between fleshy labia.

I also tried the Lana with the thin silicone portion inserted anally and the bullet vibrating against the bottom of my vaginal opening & perineum. This was moderately more enjoyable — until the vibrations became too numbing and annoying for my butt to handle.

Mae

Paramour MaeWhen my Paramour set first arrived, my partner and I were extremely excited about the Mae. We’ve always fantasized about him secretly teasing me in public and a remote-controlled vibrating egg seemed like the perfect way for us to act on this fantasy. Unfortunately, we were wrong.

Reading the instruction manual, I quickly discovered a major problem: You have to turn on the vibrating bullet separate from the remote control. Obviously, this makes using it in public much more complicated. Either you have to turn it on & insert the egg at home (wasting precious battery life) or excuse yourself to a public restroom in order to get “set up.” And if you enjoy anxiously anticipating when your partner may blast you with a wave of pleasure…too bad.

According to L’amourose, the remote control has a range of 15 meters (almost 50 feet). The ~ button cycles through the 5 vibration patterns &  the large touch pad controls vibration intensity (which is acceptable, but nothing spectacular for a Power Queen like myself). You can even use Memory Mode to record your own 10-second pattern.

Paramour RemoteAll of this would be great — if it worked. Unfortunately, I find the buttons surprisingly difficult to press & the touch pad not immediately responsive. Worst of all, the toy seems to have a lot of trouble maintaining a connection through my body. I am left pressing the ~ button over & over again, waiting for some internal vibrational change to occur…but it rarely does. It occasionally works if I’m holding the remote right up against my vulva, but more often than not, I have to remove the bullet in order to reconnect with the remote control.

Note: Despite what the instruction manual says, I recommend that the Mae should be a vaginal toy only. Without a flared base, it is NOT anal safe!

Clark

Paramour ClarkAlthough this is a fairly basic cock ring, it was probably our favorite of the three attachments. The silicone stretched over my partner without any trouble, it was comfortable for him to wear, and I received much more pleasure out of it during partnered sex than I did with the Lana. With the bullet resting on top of my partner’s penis, not only was it coming into regular contact with my clitoris, but the vibrations also traveled very well through his shaft — essentially turning him into a human vibrator. (The ring can also be worn with the bullet resting at the bottom of the penis, vibrating against the testicles.)

Charging, Quality Concerns, Etc.

According to the L’amourose website, the Paramour bullet is supposed to last 1.5 hours on a 1-hour charge and have a 100-day standby time. This has not been my experience. First of all, it’s difficult to tell how long it actually takes my Paramour to reach full charge. Although the instruction manual states that the blinking light will remain illuminated once charging is complete, mine will at times go 12+ hours blinking away like nothing is happening — or it may blink for only an hour like it’s supposed to. I never quite know what to expect.

Paramour Charging

Secondly, I’ve found that the bullet stops vibrating somewhere between 30-60 minutes if run continuously. And although I don’t know exactly how quickly it’s losing the charge while in storage, I do know that it’s much less than 100 days. In the 93 days that I’ve owned this toy, it has already destroyed my plans on 2 separate occasions by refusing to turn on.

Paramour ChargerAdditionally, I was disappointed by the cheapness of the charger itself. Catering to multiple countries with different electrical outlets, L’amourose provides a charger that features interchangeable prongs. When I was curious about how these were removed and replaced, I gently pressed on the neat little button that conveniently said Push. At that point, the plastic button broke inside of the toy, remaining permanently pressed. Not a huge deal as it doesn’t affect charging, but it’s certainly annoying for such an expensive product.

Considering that I’ve also had major issues with my Rosa Rouge randomly shutting off and refusing to turn back on (for which I’m still waiting on a replacement), I’m very suspicious about the craftsmanship of these toys — and perhaps the response time of customer service. Although it’s always possible that I could just be extremely unlucky.

Bottom Line

Paramour Box SetAlthough I really like the idea of interchangeable, multi-purpose toys, I simply cannot recommend the L’amourose Paramour at this time.

I have high standards and (like most individuals) I live on a budget. Any sex toy that costs $239 (or $199/each with remote; $129/each without remote) has to live up to its promises. At the very least, I expect it to work as described — but ideally, it needs to offer something more than other toys on the market. A fussy remote control, a handful of charging issues, and a bullet with only mediocre vibration strength is simply not acceptable.

Also, even though the toy comes with a warranty, I do not feel confident that you’ll be able to negotiate a refund/replacement with the manufacturer in a timely manner. Although I haven’t heard of any other bloggers receiving defective products, it has proven to be a very long & frustrating process for an introvert like myself and something that I think my readers should be aware of.

1star

Pros: body-safe & nonporous, 3-in-1 toy, rechargeable, remote doubles as charging base, storage box & pouch included, elegant design, warranty

Cons: very expensive, remote buttons are hard to press, remote doesn’t appear to work well through skin, must turn on the bullet & remote separately, charging time is unpredictable, battery life appears shorter than advertised, charger itself feels cheap/easily broken, a lot of grooves to clean, questionable craftsmanship & customer service response

I would like to thank L’amourose for providing me with this product in exchange for an honest & unbiased review.

Fun Factory Bootie Review

bootie1

Description

The Fun Factory Bootie is a tiny little butt plug, which is great for the novice anal explorers of the world. It measures in at only 3″ long with a 1″ diameter at its widest point, just slightly thicker than a finger’s width. Plus, it features a gentle curve that could prove pleasurable for individuals with a prostate.

The Bootie is made out of body-safe & nonporous silicone with a velvety matte finish. It’s 100% sterilizable, so it won’t harbor bacteria —which is very important for anal toys. It also has a 3″ long, thin base that makes it safe for anal use. While this should be a given for all anal toys, there are unfortunately still plenty of products on the market that run the risk of getting lost in the colons of unsuspecting individuals. Remember folks: If it doesn’t have a sturdy base, don’t stick it in your butt. You don’t want to end your night in the ER.

The Bootie is available in either black or purple and the packaging is plain & simple — though not exactly discreet. It arrives in a small, thin cardboard box featuring images of the toy. It also comes with a “user manual” which feels more like an advertisement from Fun Factory than anything else. However, for a toy so simple, there really isn’t a lot that you need to know.

Experience

bootiebox2Once upon a time, I could experiment with anal toys whenever I wanted and not get butt-shy. However, with a couple of mild hemorrhoid flare-ups that I’ve experienced recently, all of that has changed. I’ve had to back-off on the size of my toys. I’ve had to remind myself to slow down and pay closer attention to my body. Basically, I have to be much more careful about the entire process and accept that some days it’s altogether impossible. (If you are struggling with hemorrhoids, I strongly suggest reading A Porn Star’s Irreverent Guide to Hemorrhoids by Kitty Stryker. It’s amazing.)

To be honest, the Fun Factory Bootie is the only anal toy that I haven’t been intimidated by over the past few months. Its size is perfect: I feel a slight stretch around the bulb, but then it gets sucked right in without a problem and doesn’t budge. I don’t feel the visually obvious seam that runs around the toy or the Fun Factory emblem. And because the base is thin and fits snuggly between my ass cheeks, it’s super comfortable to wear for extended periods. In fact, I barely even notice it when I sit or walk around. The only time that the Bootie was not comfortable was when I tried pointing the curve towards my back rather than my stomach. (This will certainly not be the case for everyone. Fellow sex blogger, Penny, actually prefers to use the Bootie this way.)

bootiehandAlthough the size is perfect for beginners, the flexibility of this plug can make insertion a little tricky. The silicone is not soft enough to “squish” between your fingers, but the base and stem do bend very easily under pressure. I have to hold the Bootie very tightly and try to keep it relatively straight in order to insert it. (Obviously, this becomes more difficult when everything is covered in lube.) Because of the extreme flexibility and the fact that the tip is only slightly tapered, a close friend of mine was completely unable to use this toy — despite the fact that they can insert other, larger anal toys.

Using the Bootie during intercourse was an interesting experience… but probably not something that I will seek out again. It definitely made my partner feel larger and it made me feel tighter/more full. However, I kept feeling like the toy was going to get pulled out of me when my partner’s thrusts came into contact with the base. (When I started to remove the toy, I discovered that it had been turned inside of me.) Despite my fascination with the taboo of double penetration, I couldn’t truly relax and enjoy the experience.

bootielogo2Also, it’s important to remember that even though silicone is nonporous, it can retain smells. If you notice that your Fun Factory Bootie is getting a little funky & that bothers you, wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution, sanitizing it in the dishwasher (top rack, sans detergent) or boiling it for a few minutes should help.

Bottom Line

As a plug, the Fun Factory Bootie does exactly what it’s meant to do. It is a great choice for beginner’s anal play — or individuals like me who feel more comfortable with small insertables. It’s body-safe, very affordable (approximately $35), and not intimidating at all.

4stars

Pros: small size, comfortable shape, long/thin base, affordable, great for extended wear, body-safe & nonporous

Cons: flexibility can make insertion tricky, tip is only slightly tapered, may be too small for some individuals, may feel too “boring” if you enjoy more active anal stimulation (in which case, I suggest the Tantus Ripple)
