OhMiBod blueMotion Giveaway!

In anticipation of reaching 500 Twitter followers (and coincidentally also in celebration of becoming self-hosted), the wonderful people at Good Vibrations have graciously agreed to donate an item to my first ever sex toy giveaway!

As many of you might recall from my Future of Sex post, I have a fascination with teledildonics: the growing field of sex toys that combines pleasure with technology in order to connect individuals across the world. One particular product that has caught my eye is the blueMotion external vibrator by OhMiBod, a company that has a long history of creating toys that respond to outside stimuli such as music.

blueMotion is a small, wearable vibrator that can be controlled with any iPhone or Android device. It allows you to select from pre-set vibration patterns, create your own, or simply use classic music-responsive OhMiBod technology. Its standard Bluetooth connectivity has a range of approximately 30 feet, making it perfect for a little secret fun out on the town. However, with the extra WiFi option, you can connect to anyone in the world.

Toys like this one are taking “phone sex” to a whole new level — and I am super excited to be able to give one to a lucky reader!

This giveaway has ended.

Congratulations to Jill for being the lucky recipient of the OhMiBod blueMotion!

Thanks again to Good Vibrations for sponsoring this giveaway & everyone who participated!

I’d also like to take a brief moment to thank all of my readers & followers for supporting me on this journey — and my fellow bloggers for providing wonderful inspiration & advice along the way. EROcentric is growing into something much more beautiful than I ever imagined and it couldn’t have happened without all of you!

Kiiroo Platform

Kiiroo: Sex Toy Visionaries?

Back in July, I wrote about a handful of companies who are combining technology & sex, allowing intimate partners to connect across long distances. One such company was Kiiroo, a small group of individuals from the Netherlands who joined forces in 2013. Despite being newcomers to the world of sex toy manufacturing, they are already generating a lot of attention — both in the press & among sex bloggers.

Why all the excitement? We are a society that is ruled by our smart phones and social media activity. Online dating is gaining in popularity, while internet pornography is accessed by millions. Although the idea of teledildonics may be “too much” for some individuals, it only seems natural to me that online masturbation would be the next step. As the use of sex toys becomes more acceptable, companies are scrambling to create innovative products that will meet this need. Kiiroo, however, is raising the bar by making their company image one of quality and elegance.

Out with the Old…

Kiiroo SVir & OPue

When I first wrote about Kiiroo, they were developing slightly different products: the SVir & the OPue. The basic concept was the same. The OPue vibrator was capable of interpreting speed & penetrative depth through the use of touch-sensitive technology. That information would be sent to the SVir masturbation sleeve, which would then recreate those sensations with contracting rings around the penis. This would all occur with the help of Bluetooth technology and an online chat system.

In with the New…

The Onyx

Although the outside of the Onyx has not undergone a lot of noticeable changes since the days of the original SVir, the inside has had some major improvements. Most notably, Kiiroo has recently partnered up with Fleshlight, makers of some of the best & most realistic male masturbation products.

Kiiroo Onyx

The (removable) inside of the Kiiroo Onyx features 10 contracting rings that move in sequence up & down the shaft of the penis. The result is a hands-free “jerking” sensation that is meant to replicate the feeling of intercourse.

The Onyx is rechargeable, and can be used solo or connected to either a second Onyx or a Pearl.

The Pearl

The Pearl has changed dramatically from Kiiroo’s initial design. Unlike the hard, shiny exterior of the original OPue, the Pearl is covered in soft body-safe silicone. It also features a slight curve to increase G-spot stimulation. (I can’t help but wonder if our favorite “friendly neighborhood sex blogger” and now employee of Kiiroo, Marvy Darling, is behind these vast improvements!)

Kiiroo Pearl

Unfortunately, the Pearl is still only capable of transmitting information to the Onyx; it is not capable of receiving information from the Onyx or a second Pearl. This is my biggest complaint with the Kiiroo concept at this point, and I’m pleased to see that creating two-way devices is part of their longterm plan.

An exciting feature of the Kiiroo Pearl is that it can be connected to multiple Onyx devices at once. This opens up a whole realm of possibilities for online cam girls and their viewers — or any online relationship/encounter with one female and multiple males.

The Platform

Kiiroo has also developed their own video-chat program that serves as the connection point between devices, and is free with purchase. Video, audio, and text communication are all possible within the interface — in addition to the tactile sensations that it transmits through the use of the Onyx and/or Pearl. (There’s even a drawing feature, which makes art nerds like me very excited!)

Kiiroo Platform

As our sex lives become more entwined with the technology that we use, more attention to privacy protection is necessary. (Just consider the recent sex crimes against celebrities in what has been called “The Fappening.”) Thankfully, Kiiroo is taking steps to make consent an integral part of their platform.

Upon connecting to the chat program, you will be given 2 options: to generate a new & unique 6-digit passcode to share with your partner(s) or to enter in a passcode that has been created by your partner. A new code is generated for every new chat session, and each code is active for only 5 minutes. Also, once the initial connection is established, there is no outside server necessary to maintain the connection between partners. Both of these safeguards are in place to prevent hacking and interception.

Is this the start of a beautiful trend?

Although I live with my current partner, my last relationship was primarily long-distance. I remember how hard it is to try and maintain a sense of intimacy across the miles that separate you. Perhaps this is why I’m excited to see the field of teledildonics advancing so spectacularly. We’ve seen a lot of wireless sex toys hit the market this year — many with disappointing results. Is Kiiroo about to succeed where these others have failed? Will they create something truly unique and highly pleasurable? I can’t wait to find out.

Unfortunately, because these are new products that are still in the production stage, I cannot speak for how good they actually are — or aren’t. And at $149 for a Pearl, $249 for an Onyx, and $378+ for a set, the price is quite steep. However, if you would like to take the plunge and pre-order your Kiiroo products now, you can place an order through my Kiiroo affiliate link below, or with SheVibe. Delivery is expected in January 2015.

Make love to your long distance lover online

The Future of Sex is Near (even when you are not)

What comes to mind when you hear the words “teledildonics” or “computer-controlled sex toys?”

As I (regretfully) browsed the comment sections of various videos and online articles this week, I couldn’t help but notice a stigma associated with desperate and lonely computer geeks. It surprises me that in a culture where almost everyone owns a smartphone, is constantly connected to social media platforms, and increasingly communicates via electronic devices, many people still have negative reactions to the merging of technology & sex.

As someone who was in a long-distance relationship for a few years, I can most certainly understand the intimate allure of these toys. And as someone who sees cybersex as a physically and emotionally safe way to express & experience one’s sexuality, I appreciate the technological advancements. I am very excited about these new possibilities, and I hope that after learning about a few of the most impressive products, you will be too!

OhMiBod

OhMiBod has been in the business of technology-focused sex toys since they first launched their music vibrators, which vibrate to the music of a connected mp3 player. They went on to add this unique sound-interaction capability to wireless, wearable, remote-controlled vibrators ideal for club or concert environments. Now, moving into the era of smart phones, they have released blueMotion — wearable vibrators that are controlled with the use of a specially made Bluetooth application. The blueMotion vibrator is primarily made for vulva-owners, and only offers one-way technological communication. However, this can still add a large degree of intimacy for long-distance lovers… or simply a bit of secretive, risqué fun for those who crave a little exhibitionism in their sex life.

Vibease

Vibease is another wearable, Bluetooth app-controlled vibrator made for sending one-way pleasure. With Vibease’s Intimate app, your partner will be in control of the vibrations that you receive from anywhere in the world — near or far. However, Vibease is created with solo masturbation in mind as well. With their Fantasy application, you can use your smartphone to select and listen to erotica while the vibrations increase according to the story. (If you’re a writer, you may be interested to know that you can even create your own fantasies for others to use.) Vibease has not been released yet, but they are taking pre-orders that are scheduled to be shipped by September 2014.

Kiiroo

If you’re wondering where the technologically advanced & connective masturbation sleeves are, Kiiroo is your answer. Although they plan to eventually make this a two-way experience, currently the OPue vibrator is only capable of sending information. The SVir masturbation sleeve, however, can send and receive, as it can be paired with a second SVir. (Two OPues are not currently compatible.) The Kiiroo products work by using special touch rings that convey speed and penetrative depth, translating and sending the information to the contracting rings inside the corresponding SVir/s. (One OPue can be connected to multiple SVir units, which is quite beneficial for online sex work.) The connectivity options with the Kiiroo are pretty impressive. Not only are they creating their own social network, the toys will also be usable with Skype, FaceTime, and simple Bluetooth capability. Pre-orders are currently being accepted for eventual 2014 delivery.

Lovense

Lovense, a company that first introduced a Skype compatible vibrator in 2009, is currently on their 3rd generation of toys — Max & Nora, a completely bidirectional pair. (Not only can Max & Nora connect with each other, but two Max units and two Nora units are also compatible.) The Max masturbation sleeve uses vibrations and air pump technology to create stimulating pressure while the Nora vibrator is of the popular “rabbit” style, using both vibration and rotation. Although the toys interpret your thrusting motions, they do not recreate those motions for your partner. Rather, as one partner’s intensity or speed increases, Lovense increases the unique stimulating activity of the other toy (vibrating, rotating, squeezing). One partner can also use the Lovense Bluetooth application to control the other’s toy without connecting their own. They’ve even released a new “Record & Playback” feature, allowing you to save both the stimulation patterns and voice of your partner for your future masturbation needs.

Fundawear

Honestly, although Fundawear is much more tame than many other emerging products, it’s one that I am most excited about. The brain child of Durex Australia, Fundawear is a line of lingerie/undergarments that transmit the sensation of touch via a smartphone application, using the same technology that sends physical feedback to your fingers when using a touchscreen device. Your partner is able to control where you feel their electronic touch and the intensity. The fact that this is more of an intimate experience than a purely sexual one is what intrigues me the most. Durex appears to still be in the early stages of this product line, but you can get more information at Wearable Experiments.

Have you ever used a sex toy that connected with a partner via computer technology? Would you? I want to hear your experiences and opinions!
